Adios is a Safari extension for macOS that removes advertising from YouTube videos. It is distributed as a free Mac App Store app that installs the extension into Safari. It works by replacing YouTube's watch player with YouTube's own embed player, which serves no ads. ### Which browsers and systems are supported? Safari on macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Adios cannot run in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi or Opera, and there is no Windows, iPhone or iPad version. For Chrome or Firefox, uBlock Origin is the usual answer and is free. ### Does Adios reduce video quality? No. The embed player streams the same video at the same resolutions. Captions, playback speed and fullscreen also work. ### Does Adios work on Shorts and live streams? No. Adios targets regular youtube.com/watch pages. Shorts, live streams and premieres are structured differently and are not covered. ### Does Adios block ads on other sites? No. Adios acts only on youtube.com. It is not a general content blocker and does not block trackers, so a content blocker is still worth having for the rest of the web. ### Can the normal YouTube player be kept? Yes. Setting the Adios popup to Manual leaves YouTube untouched until “Remove ads for this video” is clicked. ## Pricing ### What does Adios cost? 30 ad-free videos per calendar month are free. Unlimited videos are a one-time $4.99 purchase, Adios Lifetime. ### Is the paid tier a subscription? No. It is a one-time purchase that does not expire and does not renew. A yearly subscription was sold in versions 1.0 to 1.3 and has been withdrawn. Anyone who bought it retains unlimited access while it remains active. ### What exactly is included free? 30 ad-free videos per calendar month, all features, no account and no payment details. The count resets on the 1st, and the reset date is shown in the extension popup. It is not a time-limited trial. ### What happens when the free videos run out? The video currently playing continues ad-free. After that, YouTube's normal player returns until the 1st of the month or until the unlock is purchased. ### Does the purchase cover a second Mac or a reinstall? Yes. The unlock is tied to the Apple Account, so it applies to any Mac signed in with it. “Restore Purchase” in the Adios app recovers it. ### How do refunds work? Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. For anything broken, email [adios.contact@pm.me](mailto:adios.contact@pm.me) first — a fix is usually faster. ## Privacy ### What data does Adios collect? None. Adios contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking and no advertising identifiers, and the developer operates no server for it. There is no account, so there is nothing to associate with a user. ### What is stored, and where? Locally on the Mac: the Auto or Manual preference, the count of videos used this month, and whether the unlock has been purchased. Deleting the app deletes all of it. ### Does Adios know which videos are watched? No. The extension necessarily runs on the open YouTube page — that is how the player is replaced — but it does not record, store or transmit what is watched. Only a count is kept, locally, for the free tier. ### What permissions does Adios request? A content script scoped to youtube.com, local storage for settings and the count, and native messaging so the extension and app can exchange setup and purchase status on the device. Adios has no access to any other website. ### Does Adios change the YouTube account or watch history? Adios does not sign in, change account settings or modify subscriptions. Watch history can behave differently for videos played in an embed player, which is YouTube's own behaviour for embeds. ## When Adios is not working ### Adios is installed but nothing happens on YouTube The site permission is the cause in most reports. Open a YouTube video, click the Adios icon beside the address bar, choose “Always Allow on Every Website”, then reload the tab. Until that is granted, Safari does not allow Adios to run on the page. Then confirm the extension is ticked in Safari → Settings → Extensions, and that the browser is Safari — Adios cannot run in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave or Arc. ### It worked yesterday but not today “Allow for One Day” is revoked by Safari daily. Grant the permission again and choose the “Always” option. Alternatively the 30 free videos for the month are used up; the popup shows the count and reset date. ### The Adios icon is missing from Safari's toolbar Enable the extension first in Safari → Settings → Extensions. If it is enabled and still hidden, right-click the toolbar, choose “Customize Toolbar…” and drag the Adios icon into place. ### Two audio tracks play at once Reload the page. Adios stops and mutes the original player during the swap and keeps verifying it stays stopped; a reload clears any stuck state immediately. ### The player is black or blank Reload the page. A watchdog restores YouTube's normal player when the embed does not start, so this resolves itself within a few seconds; reloading is faster. Repeated failures on a specific video are worth reporting. ### Playback starts from the beginning instead of the previous position The timestamp is passed to the new player, but a swap very early in playback, or on a page restored from a previous session, can start at zero. Normal use preserves the position. ### Adios does not work in Private Browsing Safari treats private windows separately. In Safari → Settings → Extensions, confirm Adios is permitted in Private Browsing. ### The unlock was purchased but the free tier still shows Open the Adios app once so it can refresh the purchase, then reload the YouTube tab. If it persists, use “Restore Purchase” in the app, and email if that does not resolve it — purchase issues are prioritised. ### How is Adios removed completely? Move the Adios app to the Trash. The extension is bundled inside it and is removed with it. The lifetime unlock remains on the Apple Account, so a later reinstall costs nothing. ## Legal and support ### Does using Adios breach YouTube's terms? Adios plays YouTube's own embed player, a public feature for embedding videos, and does not download, copy, redistribute or circumvent any access control. This is not legal advice, and YouTube's Terms of Service are YouTube's to interpret. YouTube Premium is the route that pays creators directly, and Adios does not claim otherwise. ### Is Adios affiliated with YouTube, Google or Apple? No. Adios is an independent Mac app built by one developer and has no affiliation with, endorsement from or connection to YouTube, Google or Apple. “YouTube” is a trademark of Google LLC. ### How is Adios supported?
